Max Verstappen has put forth one of the most dominant performances in the last few seasons and has etched his name in the record books. However, the Dutchman has also been subjected to a lot of media hate lately. This is a general trend witnessed in drivers who dominate the playing field during an ongoing season. Even Sebastian Vettel received such hate during his domination with Red Bull back in 2010.
Adrian Newey did not mince words while discussing the problems with the British media. The Briton initially applauded Max Verstappen for his performances and attitude.
The Aston-Martin-bound engineer claimed Verstappen was incredibly mature and philosophical. Additionally, the 65-year-old highlighted that people didn’t appreciate the Dutchman’s performances as much as they did with Sebastian Vettel.
I think Max is his own man, he's incredibly mature, rounded and philosophical. I think from the outside I’m not sure people fully appreciate and understand Max just like they didn't with Sebastian [Vettel].Adrian Newey said on the High Performance podcast
Newey also said that both Verstappen and Vettel were subjected to being unfairly demonized. He believed that the British media was to blame for the entire situation. Subsequently, the 65-year-old berated Sky Sports for its international viewing but nationalistic approach when displaying its content.
There's this sort of demonisation for both of them suffered at times which I think it's very unfair and maybe that's also a little bit of the British media, Sky have a huge influence around the world, their viewing is truly international but their coverage is quite nationalistic that I say and that can have nuance.Adrian Newey added

Adrian Newey claims that there was a ‘trend’ to ‘knock people down’ especially in Formula 1
Such hatred towards highly skilled drivers was often witnessed in the sport in the past as well. As a result, Adrian Newey believes that it has become a trend to knock people down in the sport.
Newey added that this was especially common in the media and the journalists involved in the coverage of the sport.
It's this thing that now with with journalism typically, I'm not saying they don't want to include this so don't take this personally, but there is that trend to put people on either the pedestal or knock them down."Adrian Newey noted
Formula 1 has continued to grow in terms of equality and inclusivity, especially when compared to the past. However, FIA and the officials must adhere to strict guidelines against such big-scale hatred. The sport is currently at its pinnacle and must maintain its image and discipline in front of the world to ensure the highest standard of conduct.
