The excitement of the 2024 Formula 1 season reached its peak during the 19th race in Austin. Mercedes teammates George Russell and Lewis Hamilton delighted fans with their playful banter and encouragement.
Amid the intense atmosphere of the US Grand Prix, the duo engaged in lighthearted teasing. Russell affectionately dubbed Lewis “granddad” due to their age difference. As the 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli prepares to join Mercedes in 2025, conversations about his future are heating up.
In a conversation, George Russell affectionately referred to Antonelli as a “kid” because of his age. However, Lewis Hamilton jumped in with a laugh, pointing out that the 26-year-old can’t call Antonelli a kid since Russel himself is only a few years older than Antonelli.
Russell’s idol added that he feels justified in calling Russell a kid due to the significant age gap between them. In response, the younger Briton playfully called Hamilton “Mr. Grandad,” teasing the seven-time champion about turning 40 soon.
The witty Hamilton immediately fired back by stating that Russell might have more gray hair by the time he hits 39 than the 104-time race winner Curious, Russell then asked him for his secret to staying without gray air, making Hamilton laugh out loud.

Although Russell emerged unharmed, his car sustained significant damage, affecting the new upgrades installed for the race in Austin. Feeling regret for the team that worked hard on the car, he worried about how they would fix the damage.
Russell noted they might have to revert to the older upgrades since the new ones might not be usable. However, Lewis Hamilton has offered some of his parts to help Russell.
Right now, the concern is about the bits. We will have to revert on the upgrades. Lewis has kindly offered his ones, but we’re not going to swap.
George Russell told Express
Mercedes is focused on repairing Russell’s car before the United States Grand Prix, where he aims for a top-five finish. Meanwhile, Hamilton will start from the pit lane due to a power unit change, placing him in 19th position on the grid. Fans are hopeful that both drivers can score points for the team at COTA.
