The Canadian GP was full of action. However, the race turned into a disaster for McLaren. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri ended up colliding into one another during an intense on-track battle. Norris blatantly took the blame for causing the incident after he had to retire his car.
The two McLaren drivers have battled it out since the start of the season. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have not spared each other when it comes to the battle for race wins with the latter having the upper hand so far.
During the ending stages of the Canadian GP, Norris was trying to make a move on the Australian driver in the final sector of the track. As the Briton went down the inside onto the back straight, he was still just a little behind Piastri. Oscar Piastri managed to get ahead of Norris by the main straight, but the two made contact. The 25-year-old hit the rear of his teammate’s car, which forced him out of the race.
Lando Norris was apologetic on the team radio. The 25-year-old did not play the blame game over the incident. Rather, he was quick to accept that he was at fault for causing the collision, and even called himself ‘stupid.’ This DNF could be detrimental for Norris’ title prospects.
I’m sorry. It’s all my bad. All my fault. Unlucky, Sorry. Stupid from me.

Lando Norris predicted Canadian GP crash with Oscar Piastri
Just ahead of the Montreal weekend, Lando Norris was asked about his battles with his teammate. The two drivers have been allowed to race by McLaren this season, without any indication of team orders. This created an open contest between the two, with many raising concerns over the possibility of a crash. It turns out that Norris actually expected such consequences.

Lando Norris had stated that he and Oscar Piastri were not going to back down from fighting one another on-track. The Briton understood that things had come to a point when a crash was inevitable. While the 25-year-old correctly predicted this possibility, it is unlikely that Norris thought that this would happen just a couple of days after he made this statement.
We never said we’re going to avoid everything. I think we’ve actually been quite open in saying at some point, something is probably going to happen. We just have to be ready for that. I think both Oscar and myself know that.

Despite the McLaren garage acknowledging the chances of an incident between the two drivers, this result will be a massive blow. The Woking-based team lost crucial points as Norris retired from the race while Piastri slipped to P4. It might be time for the British team to have a serious chat with its drivers to avoid any such incident again. Moreover, McLaren might even start considering implementing team orders to ensure Norris and Piastri stay off one another on-track.
