If we go to Abu Dhabi and the championship is done and it is not possible for Lando to win [the drivers’ title], that will already have changed. That will be letting Oscar be allowed to go out there and win the race if he can. The whole dynamic will swap over very quickly this year and will continue into 2025.

Johnny Herbert told Vision4Sport

Herbert believes that McLaren might have to offer Piastri the autonomy he deserves in case Norris fails to win the championship. The 23-year-old has proved that he is capable of putting in race-winning performances time and again this season.

Norris, on the other hand, has faltered in crucial moments despite getting the backing of his team and having a faster car. All that awaits to be seen now is who becomes the number-one driver for the Woking-based team in the coming years.
