At that moment, Penelope came into the room and snatched the headphones off of Verstappen. The 5-year-old then immediately blabbered something to the Dutchman and presumable teased him. She then put the headset on herself and pretended to be just like the 27-year-old. The reigning world champion was seemingly unfazed by this and let the girl play for a while.

Helmut Marko labels Max Verstappen as Red Bull’s ‘joker card’

Max Verstappen wasn’t surprised after witnessing the challenger’s struggles being carried on from the previous season. The Dutchman couldn’t lodge many impressive laps in the RB21 chassis during the pre-season testing. Helmut Marko, who is a mentor to Verstappen, talked highly of the latter’s chances in the coming season.

Marko believed that if the challenger’s performance wasn’t good, the Dutchman would still have to deliver results. The Austrian noted that ‘joker’ Verstappen would have to bring his driving brilliance into play and score positive results in a struggling chassis.

It would have been nice if our adaptations and innovations had worked right away, [But] the car is more predictable. If the car is not optimal, then we have the joker Max, who then has to bring his driving brilliance into play,

Helmut Marko told Sport.de

Red Bull will have to work extremely hard on their performance in the final year of the ground-effect era. The rival teams have shown major performance improvements as Milton Keynes seems to lose ground. Verstappen will have to fight for his fifth consecutive championship win as the Austrian constructor continues to face issues in performance.
