Yuki Tsunoda had put forth one of the most consistent performances in the 2024 season at RB. Despite Tsunoda’s positive-looking performance, he hasn’t been considered for a move up the Red Bull chain yet. However, the Japanese must keep up with good results to move up the chain. The Mexican GP Qualifying saw a disappointing end for the 23-year-old’s ambitions of maximizing performance over the weekend.

Despite the rollercoaster performance from Yuki Tsunoda‘s teammate, he consistently scored good points. However, Tsunoda crashed during the final fast lap of the Q2 qualifying session of the Mexican GP. The Japanese driver suffered from the crash heading into Turn 12 of the circuit and immediately red-flagged the session. As a result, even Liam Lawson faces a Q2 elimination for the Mexican GP.

Moreover, Tsunoda’s rumors of testing with Red Bull after the season end might be under question after the crash. Yuki Tsunoda said on the team radio

Yuki Tsunoda still remains one of the better contenders for Sergio Perez‘s seat at Red Bull in the coming season. Perez’s Q1 elimination has further strengthened Tsunoda’s chances of acquiring a seat at Milton Keynes in the coming season. Regardless, the Japanese will have to work hard to move up the pecking order and out-score his in-form teammate Liam Lawson.
