I think I was with my front alongside Perez’s rear, from the exit of Turn 1 on the run up to Turn 3. He goes towards the wall, the wall comes a little bit back towards the track, and I had nowhere to go. I don’t know if he didn’t see me or what, but I can’t just disappear out of the blue. I made contact with the wall and him at the same time, and unfortunately we had a crash.
Kevin Magnussen shared his side of the story to the media post the race.

Kevin Magnussen currently stands on ten penalty points, five of which he scored in the Miami Grand Prix, for leaving the track and gaining an unfair advantage. Magnussen explained after the Monaco race that it was Perez who pushed him toward the wall, leaving him with no space to go. However, it was seen through the cameras on Hulkenberg’s helmet that it was actually Magnussen who tried to overtake the Mexican through a gap that was not enough for an F1 car.

Magnussen now finds himself just two points shy of a race ban in F1 and has to come to terms with racing in a fair manner to fare well for the Haas F1 team. All in all, the Monaco GP was a memorable event for teams like Ferrari and McLaren whereas for outfits like Alpine and Haas, it was a weekend to forget. Next up on the F1 calendar is the Canadian GP.
