RB had hopes of scoring some crucial points during the Chinese GP. However, the two drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t perform well over the weekend, including a zero points tally in the sprint race. During the Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo‘s car was slammed by Lance Stroll on the safety car restart.

Daniel Ricciardo‘s race in Shanghai was cut short due to the unexpected incident caused by Lance Stroll. During the safety car restart, Ricciardo’s VCARB01 was hit by Stroll in the back near the first corner. The Australian braked a bit too early for Stroll’s liking and hence caused the entire collision. Due to the crash, Ricciardo’s rear was in the air for a few seconds and sustained some damage.

The Australian lost his rear during the slow-speed corners because of the incident. This caused Ricciardo to fall down the pecking order and be unable to perform well around the Shanghai circuit. Stroll did not sustain major damage to the AMR24 chassis. However, the Canadian driver fell down the pecking order and is currently in plum last at the Chinese GP.

Daniel Ricciardo forced to retire the car after collision

The incident caused major damage to Ricciardo’s challenger and rendered him unable to fight around the circuit. The Aussie opened up on the team radio regarding the damage to the underbody of the chassis. Additionally, the 34-year-old faced issues while tackling the slow-speed corners of the Shanghai circuit.

Ricciardo lost his rear during the turns which caused him difficulty in maneuvering around the circuit. Hence, the 34-year-old had to retire from the Chinese GP to put a disappointing end to the race. The Australian driver was showcasing promising results compared to his Japanese counterpart Yuki Tsunoda. However, due to the incident, the team lost out on a major chunk of points over the Chinese weekend.

Even Yuki Tsunoda faced a similar incident during the safety car restart and had to retire from the race. Hence, RB will move on from the Chinese weekend with no points under their belt. Additionally, Ricciardo’s nightmare for the 2024 season continues as he faces another disappointing situation. As a result, multiple people will start raising questions over the Aussie’s coveted seat in the pinnacle of motorsport.
