Sergio Perez got hit by a bird during the qualifying for the sprint race at the Chinese GP. As the Mexican driver realized the impact, he asked the team for a pitstop to double-check the situation. Checo even used his wits and called the bird the brother of race engineer Hugh Bird.
The moment, as we can see from the namesake siblings, was amusing for Perez but not for the race engineer, Bird. Hugh Bird was focused on Checo’s car to ensure that the RB20 had not sustained any damage. Perhaps, Sergio Perez‘s race engineer wasn’t amused by the Mexican’s comments and was sick of jokes about his last name.

As seen in the video the Mexican got hit by a bird on the long back straight of the Shanghai International Circuit. After the team checked everything in the pitlane, Perez went out again and carried out his qualifying for the sprint. The Red Bull driver will start from P6 tomorrow at Sprint right behind Carlos Sainz.

Christian Horner claims that Sergio Perez has worked hard
Despite the ongoing talks of Sergio Perez’s potential replacement, the Red Bull team principal Christian Horner claims that the team was very happy with both drivers. Horner believes that Perez has worked hard during the winter break last season, and he is performing well. While talking about his struggles, Horner joked a bit before he spoke seriously about it with the media,
Probably because he’s out of contract! No, I think he’s worked hard over the winter. He’s come in with a change, perhaps slightly to his approach to Grand Prix weekends and he’s been very close in the four races so far this season.Christian Horner via: Planetf1

Horner, however, has left doors open for interpretations as he claimed that the decisions for next season’s driver lineup won’t be made until the second half of this season. The fact that most teams do not have a set driver lineup for the upcoming season is very advantageous to drivers like Carlos Sainz.
After being a member of Ferrari since 2021, the Spaniard will leave the team at the conclusion of this current campaign. Red Bull has reportedly made an offer to Carlos Sainz. However nothing is set in stone for now. It will be interesting to see if Red Bull decides to replace Sergio Perez.
