Formula 1 has recently confirmed that Madrid will host the Spanish GP from 2026 onwards. Additionally, the track would feature a mix of street-style and circuit-style racing throughout the circuit. However, as the grid prepares for the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton had previously ranted about the Spanish GP being hosted at Valencia, which the Briton wouldn’t enjoy racing around.
Rumors started flooding the paddock from the previous year itself that Madrid could potentially host the Spanish GP. However, this decision wasn’t in the best interest of the seven-time world champion as he iterated his love for the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona. Additionally, Hamilton proclaimed that he wasn’t much concerned with the host of the Spanish GP as long as Valencia didn’t hold it.
As long as it’s not like Valencia was, which wasn’t the most enjoyable track to drive… But I don’t think I would want to lose Barcelona. I love the city.Hamilton said, as reported by racefans.net.

Regardless, Hamilton explained the importance of preserving some of the classic circuits such as Budapest, Silverstone, etc. However, Formula 1 could potentially oust other tracks that did not exactly provide the best amounts of racing action according to the former world champion. Anyhow, Hamilton did not highlight any particular circuits that F1 could oust from the calendar.
I do think it’s very important to keep the some of the classic circuits. At least the ones that provide great racing. Budapest is spectacular, Silverstone’s grand prix is spectacular, this track – there’s a lot of really great original circuits that we should keep. Maybe some that don’t provide the greatest of racing, maybe switch those out.
Lewis Hamilton believed that classic circuits were the pillars of Formula 1
The Briton was not hesitant in accepting the importance of the classic circuits in Formula 1, which were an integral part of the sport. Additionally, Hamilton claimed that he thought more for the heritage of the sport and hence talked in favor of preserving the classic and historic racing destinations such as Monaco, Silverstone, etc.

Moreover, Hamilton asserted that these classic circuits were the pillars of the sport and hence needed to stay for longer. Hence, the decision to shift the Spanish GP to Madrid might be something exciting and fun for the drivers and fans of the sport. The new circuit will undergo development as soon as possible and then provide the drivers with great racing action soon.
The grid is preparing for the challenges in the upcoming season as the calendar is fully stacked with a record 24 races down the season. The 2023 season with just 21 races proved to be very fatal and taxing for the drivers and crew. Hence, the 2024 season with three additional races would definitely be a mountainous task for the drivers and the teams.
