Who is James Vowles?

James Vowles is a British engineer who has been a veteran of the F1 operations in Brackley. James started his F1 career with British American Racing, before working in the team’s Honda guise. Vowles was also a part of the fairy-tale success of the Brawn F1 team in the 2009 F1 season. Wherein the Ross Brawn-led team managed to stun the world as it bagged the Drivers’ and Constructor’s titles.
In recent years, James Vowles has been credited with the immense success achieved by Mercedes in the turbo-hybrid era. James was the head of strategy for the Mercedes F1 team over the years. This, in turn, allowed the German team to gain an edge over its competitors in this department. James Vowles won 9 F1 Constructors’ championships in his 20 years of working at ‘Team Brackley.’ Recently, Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff shed light on Vowles’s shift towards remote strategy operations during the middle of the 2022 F1 season. Vowles competed for the Garage 59 team, driving the McLaren 720S under the GT category. James took part alongside former F1 race winner, Pastor Maldonado’s brother, Manuel Maldonado. Although, the 43-year-old’s Car #59 finished 17th in its class.
On the education front, James Vowles obtained a degree in computer science from the University of East Anglia in 2000. Consequently, Vowles opted for a Master’s degree in Motorsport Engineering and Management in 2000 from Cranfield University. As such, this vast experience and qualifications put James as one of the best candidates to be a team leader in Formula 1.
