After months-long saga surrounding Carlos Sainz, he has recently put pen to paper regarding a Williams deal. A lot has been made of the mega news in the paddock, and while the dust has started to settle, James Vowles has pretty much shot a warning toward rival teams for next year.
The Williams boss genuinely believes that with the signing of Carlos Sainz, he has a lethal driver line-up at his disposal. Alex Albon has been with the Grove-based team for quite some time and is highly regarded in the F1 paddock.
Sainz will take the place of outgoing Logan Sargeant from next year onward.
My belief is, that I've signed between the two of them, the right pairing for Williams and two drivers that will put fear into others when they're stood next to each other on the grid. That's what I wanted.James Vowels via F1

Fighting talk from Williams' James Vowles – he discusses Carlos Sainz's 2025 move on the latest #F1Nation podcast ?️#F1
Carlos Sainz has been making his trade with Ferrari since 2021 and on most occasions, has proved to be on level terms with the outfit’s star driver, Charles Leclerc. Williams has hit the jackpot by securing the Spaniard’s services and now it will get up to the team to provide him with the right tools from 2025 onwards.
Williams has got a ‘leader’ in the form of Carlos Sainz
While Vowles is ecstatic with his star line-up for the 2025 season, he also views Sainz as someone who will bring leadership qualities. The 29-year-old has a wealth of experience in F1 and could immensely help Williams in achieving its targets.
The three-time Grand Prix winner has so far competed in 196 races.
I needed a leader, not just someone who is quick in the car. I wanted everything around them to be just right in order to create performance. Carlos has that. If you look at every team he’s gone to – look at where they started and where they finished. You’ll see he has a history of ending in a much better place in the team than when he started.James Vowles via F1
The Williams F1 team has been fighting toward the rear end of the grid for a long time. However, since the arrival of Vowles from Mercedes, the team has been on an upward trajectory, and singing Sainz is the right step for them. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, it will be fascinating to see what kind of a challenger the Grove-based team would be able to come up with for next year.
