Yuki Tsunoda has been performing better than his teammate Daniel Ricciardo at RB. The team has scored an inconsistent start to the 2024 season. Regardless, Tsunoda had scored good points over the previous race weekends.
The Japanese driver was hopeful of great results at the Hungarian GP. However, the 24-year-old has sustained a disappointing end to the Hungarian GP qualifying.
Yuki Tsunoda had an impressive drive around the Hungarian GP circuit as he cleared the first two qualifying sessions. The Japanese driver was on the trajectory to showcase a great end to the qualifying session by the Q3 session. However, Tsunoda couldn’t control his chassis and succumbed to a massive shunt towards the latter half of the session.
Tsunoda’s chassis was in the air for a little time before colliding with the barrier and rendering the chassis unusable. As a result, the 24-year-old can only manage a P10 start to the main race of the Hungarian GP. The Japanese driver will have to work extremely hard to move up the pecking order and score impressive points at the Hungaroring.

Sergio Perez claims it was ‘normal’ to see Yuki Tsunoda wanting to acquire the Red Bull seat
The 2024 season saw a great performance improvement from Yuki Tsunoda since the beginning. The 24-year-old was also being considered for a move up to Red Bull if Sergio Perez failed to perform well. Additionally, Tsunoda had previously mentioned that it would be ‘weird’ to witness Red Bull favor Liam Lawson above him.
Upon this, Perez noted that it was normal to witness Yuki Tsunoda wanting to acquire the highly coveted seat and labeled the situation as the ‘nature’ of the sport.
I think a lot of drivers out there will love to have my seat,” Perez said. “It’s one of the top seats. It’s normal for Yuki to want to move up. When you’re in a lower seat, you want to move up. That is part of the nature of the sport.Sergio Perez said as reported by Planet F1
Regardless of the opportunity for a promotion up the Red Bull family, Tsunoda will have to focus on RB. Faenza has continued to provide the drivers with the best opportunity over the race weekend. Hence, the remainder of the 2024 season would be extremely exciting to witness how it fares for the team.
