The 2024 F1 season is five rounds down and a lot of talk has swirled around the drama that has been unfolding in the drivers market. Several teams are immensely active in finding suitable candidates for next year but amidst all this, McLaren’s Zak Brown is in a pretty comfortable place.
McLaren has the youngest driver line-up on the grid and both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are tied down to long-term contracts. This has put Brown in a happy place and thus, he has admitted that his team is not destabilized like the other teams during the ongoing season.
McLaren’s star driver, Norris also recently put pen to paper regarding a new deal.
We’re trying to play a part in the silly season - but we’re just not part of it! I think one of the things that I'm trying to do is bring stability, visibility, and longevity to all of our racing team. So I think at a time where you've got some teams destabilised, not sure who's going to drive [where], engine changes and things of that nature, I think we're pretty strong position looking forward.Zak Brown said in an interview with Racingnews365
As things stand, around eight teams on the F1 grid are yet to arrive on a driver line-up for the 2025 season. Every day some new development is taking place in the driver market and while all this is happening, Brown and Co. are comfortably sitting in their reclining chairs and taking in the drama that has been unfolding. McLaren undoubtedly has one of the most exciting driver-pair in the sport.
McLaren is in a ‘great position’ going ahead into F1
While Zak Brown has shown immense pleasure with having McLaren’s driver line-up sorted for the upcoming years, he also genuinely feels that the papaya outfit is in a great place. The Woking-based team is currently third in the 2024 Constructors Championship.
Moreover, they have so far managed to amass 96 points!
We’re in a great position. Everything’s running according to plan we have our new technology in, we’ve got great sponsors.Zak Brown said in the same interview
Since the second half of the 2023 F1 season, the Woking-based team has been on an upward trajectory. They had a strong showing at the Chinese GP where Norris managed a sensational second place finish. Next up on the calendar is the Miami GP and keeping in view how happy a place McLaren is in currently, they could spring up a few surprises at the highly-anticipated American event.
