Oscar Piastri lost out on the 2025 driver’s title under extremely disappointing circumstances. The Aussie led the title for a majority of the season but couldn’t perform when it mattered the most. Meanwhile, his British counterpart made all the difference on track and achieved his maiden title win. Now, despite the difficulties this year, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown insists that the 24-year-old possesses title-winning talent and wouldn’t take long before winning his own championship.

Oscar Piastri started the 2025 season off in great form. The Aussie led the standings for quite some time before suffering from a drastic performance slump. Moreover, he had to play the team game on multiple occasions as he ultimately refused to play the second fiddle and help Lando Norris win the title.

Regardless of his woes this year, Zak Brown is confident in the 24-year-old’s capabilities and is rooting for him to get his first title win. Zak Brown declared that Oscar Piastri was surely going to be a world champion in the near future. The Englishman continued that Piastri would win his maiden title with McLaren as well.

Though the Aussie joined the Papaya Squad a bit later than Lando Norris, Brown hoped to provide equal opportunities to both him and Norris. Regardless, both McLaren drivers have only driven for Woking in their careers, and that would definitely mean a lot to the constructor.

Oscar is going to be a world champion, I’m convinced he’s going to be a world champion in a McLaren. While we got him a little bit later in his career, we still took a risk on both our drivers. Both times they drove a Formula 1 car, it was a McLaren.

Zak Brown said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Shockingly, Zak Brown claimed that both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were grumpy towards the team principal, Andrea Stella, and himself at times. However, Brown reckons that this is a good thing and a great accomplishment for the team so far. The 54-year-old is very proud of the team effort so far and is looking forward to replicating, if not performing better than, their results in the 2025 season.

They’ve both been a little grumpy with Andrea [Stella, team principal] and I from time to time, but I think that’s good. We’re pushing each other hard and it’s just such an accomplishment. I’m very proud and looking forward to doing it again.

Zak Brown claims McLaren has “two No.1 drivers” with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri

Since the duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been racing at McLaren, the team cannot decide on one of them being the clear no.1 driver. Norris even revealed the reasons behind why this wouldn’t happen until both of them were racing for the same team. Now, Zak Brown shockingly claims that Woking has two No.1 drivers and wouldn’t want to sabotage one over the other.

Zak Brown insisted that it felt rewarding to take a big risk on two young drivers, and it paid out in the end. He claimed that despite the criticism and noise towards the team, they managed to perform well with two No.1 drivers. Brown highlighted that both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri did not have an odd exchange between them, and that definitely meant that the duo was going to achieve even better results in the time to come.

For a big team to take a risk on young drivers feels very rewarding. To be able to have two number one drivers against all odds, all the noise that we’ve had for so long that it’s impossible to do what we did, which is have two awesome racing drivers that won seven races each, that genuinely enjoy racing each other and are a treat to work with. They’ve never had an odd exchange between them.

Zak Brown noted.

McLaren will aim to maximize results even more in the upcoming regulations and beat their rivals once again. Though the team was dominant this year, they couldn’t achieve a one-two finish in the driver’s title standings. Regardless, Woking definitely achieved some commendable results this year, and no one can write off their dominance in the final season of the ground-effect era.
