Zhou Guanyu has continued to suffer from mediocre performances in the 2024 Formula 1 season. The Chinese driver has so far failed to secure a seat for the coming year. As a result, multiple people speculated Guanyu’s massive financial backing from China to be one of the reasons for him still having a seat in the sport. The 25-year-old has responded sternly to these untoward rumors recently.
Zhou Guanyu wasn’t mincing words when speaking against the ‘stupid rumors’ from the media after berating the racial abuse. Guanyu reckoned that he was continuously hearing about the rumors in the past.
However, this was the first time he responded to such claims openly. Subsequently, the Chinese driver laid out the rumors regarding him being in contact with a team on the sport for the coming season, etc.
Firstly, there's a lot of stupid rumours from media. I heard some rumours in the past, and it's the first time I'm speaking to someone [about it], just because I want to say it clear, is that people say like: I don't know how much money I'm bringing, [I'm] speaking to one of the teams.Zhou Guanyu told racingnews365.com
However, Guanyu made it clear that he had barely spoken to the rumored team recently. Regardless, the Chinese driver believed that such rumors were more than normal to flourish due to the sponsor money he could bring. Additionally, the 25-year-old claimed that he ‘wished’ to invest in Sauber to reap great benefits from the team and the sport
What I mean is that I barely spoke to them in that period, but it [rumours] just come up with the amount of sponsor money I could bring to the table - I wish I had that, maybe I can invest together in Sauber and make a benefit of it.Zhou Guanyu added
Zhou Guanyu and Sauber ‘working hard’ to showcase the former’s capabilities on track
Zhou Guanyu has scored a few good performances in Formula 1 since he joined the sport. However, the 25-year-old claimed that Graeme Lowdon (part of his management team) and he were working hard on his form. Guanyu aims to showcase his capabilities on track in terms of performance to successfully land a contract with a team in the pinnacle of motorsport.
On the other side, Graeme Lowdon and me are working hard on myself on track to show what I am capable of doing that, and himself looking at the few options still available on the table.Zhou Guanyu noted

The ongoing summer break will provide Sauber with much-needed time to reflect on the poor performance since the season’s beginning.
