Charles Leclerc, who’s currently leading the race for the world drivers’ championship for the season of 2022, lost to current world champion Max Verstappen in the inaugural Miami Grand Prix yesterday. After losing the lead to Verstappen early on in the race, there was a glimmer of hope in the closing laps of the race when the Monacan driver had the opportunity to reclaim his lead only to fail to do so despite having DRS enabled.

Leclerc has stressed on how it is finally time that Ferrari makes some solid recovery given how Dutch driver Max Verstappen secured his second consecutive win yesterday at Miami following the win at Imola. This was his third win of the season out of the five races. He had DNFs in the other two races.

So far, the Italian-based racing team has not really brought in any major changes but they’ve talked about major developmental plans being on the plate. “We need to we need to keep pushing. Upgrades will be very important throughout the year. And I hope now that we can do a step up from the next race onwards. But it’s been tight since the beginning of the season,” added Leclerc right after the race at Miami got concluded.

Charles Leclerc highlighted on how his hopes of winning the Miami GP were crushed when he realised that he wasn’t doing as well as Verstappen was doing on medium tyres during the race. He had used hard tyres for the closing laps but they were still not fast enough to overtake Verstappen and reclaim his lead.

“We struggled quite a bit with the medium tyres, especially in the first stint and got overtaken there. Then it made our race a bit more difficult from that moment onwards. On the hard we were very competitive and towards the end, I thought I could get Max at one point,” added Leclerc. He then went on to talk about how fun it was for him to see so many people in the stands in the Miami GP which was one star-studded event graced by numerous celebrities along with the loyal Tifosi.

The Dutchman’s win yesterday has reduced the gap between him and the Monacan driver driver to 19 points yesterday following his win in the latest street track in America.
