Fabio Fognini Trolls Jannik Sinner’s Coach Simone Vagnozzi: “Shortest in the Team”

- Jannik Sinner won the Miami Open, completing the Sunshine Double without dropping a set.
- Fabio Fognini humorously commented on Simone Vagnozzi's height in response to a photo on Instagram.
- Sinner will compete at the Monte Carlo Masters, aiming to improve his clay court performance.
Jannik Sinner etched his name in the record books with a straight-set win over Jiri Lehecka in the Miami Open final, as the victory made him the eighth man to accomplish the Sunshine Double feat and the first one since Roger Federer in 2017. Sinner, in fact, won both the Indian Wells and the Miami Open without dropping a set.
He is on a 17-match winning streak in Masters 1000, as the last time he suffered defeat was in the third round of the 2025 Shanghai Masters, where cramps forced him to hand the walkover to Tallon Griekspoor. Since then, he clinched the Paris Masters and the two Sunshine Double events without losing a set.
Prior to entering the stadium, Sinner, in an interview, talked about how important his two coaches, Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, are to his team. Both coaches joined the 24-year-old’s entourage back in 2022 and guided him to the No.1 ranking, four Grand Slam titles, two ATP Finals, and now, the Sunshine Double. Cahill was set to leave Sinner’s team after the 2025 season but chose to coach him for at least one more season.
Following Sinner’s latest win, the World No.2 took to Instagram and shared a picture with his coaches. Vagnozzi could be seen posing for the photo while standing on his tiptoes, because of which he found himself on the receiving end of a lighthearted joke. Fabio Fognini, who hung up his racket after losing to Alcaraz in the first round of last year’s Wimbledon, pulled Vagnozzi’s leg for his height.
@vagnozzis Don’t stand on tiptoes… it still shows that you’re the shortest in the team.

After his four-set defeat to Alcaraz in last year’s US Open final, Sinner wanted to improve certain aspects of his game. The part of Sinner’s game that stood out the most in Miami was his service games.
He was broken just once, by Alex Michelsen in the fourth round. And on top of that, the Italian ace smashed 70 aces throughout the tournament.
Jannik Sinner to play at the Monte Carlo Masters next
The hardcourt season has ended. The clay swing has already started. But top players like Jannik Sinner will start their campaign on the surface at the Monte Carlo Masters, the main draw of which is set to start on April 6.

Clay is always different. I think starting well is important. It is a very physical and mental surface, so we need to go in the right direction if we want to succeed there. However, now I want to rest and enjoy. I hope to arrive well for Monaco because I live there and it’s always different to be able to sleep at home.
Jannik Sinner told Corinne Dubreuil
Sinner doesn’t have a great record on clay to boast about, given that he has won just one title from three finals. He lifted the 2022 Croatia Open by defeating Carlos Alcaraz, and last year, he lost the Italian Open and the French Open finals to the seven-time Grand Slam champion.
But thanks to his performance last season, he will be a huge threat on the surface. He nearly snatched the French Open title from Alcaraz, who overcame a two-set deficit and saved three championship points to defend his title.
The South Tyrol native will be bidding to complete the Career Grand Slam and become the first man since Alcaraz to accomplish the feat. The 22-year-old achieved the feat in this year’s Australian Open by defeating Novak Djokovic, who knocked out Sinner in the semifinals in five sets.
