Djokovic and Sinner have played six sets in 2024, and the former World No. 1 hasn’t had a single break point on the Italian’s serve. Famous journalist Benoit Maylin tweeted this statistic on his social media platform. This is considered one of the primary reasons as to why Sinner has managed to defeat Djokovic three consecutive times across all competitions.

This match started the winning streak for the World No. 1 against Djokovic. The last time Djokovic beat Sinner was in the finals of the Nitto ATP Finals last year, where the 37-year-old won a record-breaking seventh title.
What next for Novak Djokovic after the Shanghai Masters?
Novak Djokovic demonstrated he can still compete at a high level by reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters. This was his first ATP Tour event since the US Open, and he lost only one set throughout the tournament. Although he was defeated by World No. 1 Jannik Sinner for the third time this year, Djokovic left the tournament feeling positive about his performance.
The Shanghai Masters is the second-to-last ATP 1000 event of the tennis season, with the Paris Masters set to take place starting October 28. Following that, the Nitto ATP Finals will be held in Turin on November 10.
It is still unclear if Djokovic will participate in either event. His only confirmed appearance is at the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will compete alongside Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune.
Djokovic’s success in Shanghai has moved him into a qualifying position for the ATP Finals. He currently ranks sixth in the Race to Turin standings, sitting 105 points ahead of Casper Ruud in seventh place. He also holds a 605-point lead over Alex de Minaur, who is in ninth and outside the final qualifying spot.
