Tennis fans have the ability to attract attention in positive or negative ways. During the Halle Open, one fan made trends on social media for his funny cheer during the match between Jannik Sinner and Yannick Hanfmann.
Before Hanfmann was about to serve, a fan shouted out his support for him by saying his first name. However, he clarified by taking the full name so the audience recognizes his support for Hanfmann and not for Sinner. The fan in the Halle Open crowd cheered:
Let’s go Yannick let’s go… I mean Yannick Hanfmann.
Regardless of how many fans Hanfmann had on the center court of Halle Open, it did little to his benefit as he lost in straight sets to the World No.1. Sinner has kickstarted his title defense at the Halle Open, which he won last year against Hubert Hurkacz in the final.

Halle Open was the only title Sinner won in 2024 outside of the hard courts. He missed most of the clay season due to a hip injury and lost in the Wimbledon quarterfinals to Daniil Medvedev.
Jannik Sinner starts title defense at Halle Open
Jannik Sinner made a strong return to grass at the Terra Wortmann Open. This was his first match since a tough loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final. Sinner defeated German wildcard Yannick Hanfmann 7-5, 6-3 in Halle, beginning his title defense on a high note. The match lasted 92 minutes inside the OWL Arena.

The Italian star relied heavily on his serve throughout the match. He won 84 percent of points on his first serve, showing control and confidence. Sinner also saved both break points he faced, keeping Hanfmann from gaining momentum. His solid service game helped him cruise through the straight-sets win.
With this result, Sinner’s season record improves to 19 wins and just two losses in 2025. He also extended his unbeaten streak against players ranked outside the Top 20 to 66 matches. Hanfmann, ranked No. 138 in the world, could not match Sinner’s power and consistency on court.
Looking ahead, Sinner will face a tougher challenge in the second round. He plays Alexander Bublik, the 2023 Halle champion. Sinner leads their head-to-head record 4-1, though Bublik’s only win came when Sinner retired during a match in 2022. This upcoming clash promises to be competitive.
Jannik Sinner achieves huge landmark
Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has now completed 54 straight weeks as the world No. 1. This marks the fourth-longest initial reign at the top of the ATP rankings. He has now passed Novak Djokovic, who held the top spot for 53 consecutive weeks during his first run from July 2011 to July 2012.

The only players with longer first stints at No. 1 are Roger Federer, Jimmy Connors, and Lleyton Hewitt. Federer leads the list with 237 weeks, followed by Connors with 160 and Hewitt with 75. Sinner now joins elite company with this milestone.
At the Halle Open, Sinner is defending 500 points. Despite that, he still maintains a solid 2,030-point lead over world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. This gives him a comfortable cushion at the top for now.
Alexander Zverev, ranked third, reduced the gap to Alcaraz slightly after finishing runner-up in Stuttgart. However, he still trails the Spaniard by 2,350 points. Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz has moved up to fourth in the rankings after winning in Stuttgart, overtaking Djokovic, Draper, and Musetti, and boosting his Wimbledon seeding chances.
