WWE is just about four months shy from the Netflix premiere of its longest-running episodic television show, Raw. And as confirmed by Cody Rhodes during the Bash in Berlin post-show, the debut is set for January 6. For the past 31 years, the red brand has stayed on linear television.
But now it’s finally time to foray into the OTT platform that has around 85 million paid subscribers based only in the United States and Canada. It places North America as the second-largest global market for Netflix. And it is safe to say that WWE content will be accessible to such a gargantuan audience. The anticipation for Raw’s debut on Netflix is growing in stature each passing week.
Recently, John Cena confirmed that he’ll be there on the show. The wrestler-turned-actor emphasized the enormity of the occasion and pledged to attend the D-Day for WWE. Cena’s longtime rival, both off and on-screen, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, is also expected to make the cut. Although he hasn’t spoken of it in any capacity, The Great One might pull off a surprise appearance.
Once Raw makes the switch to Netflix, several changes will go hand in hand. First and foremost, there’d be no issues whatsoever when it comes to censoring the verbiage on the shows. The revelation was made by none other than the incumbent Chief Content Officer of WWE, Triple H.
The fans are also expecting an acoustic overhaul of Monday Raw Night, including the scrappage of the current theme song for the show. There have been pleas to revert to the rock band genre of WWE music instead of some generic country music blend that’s all over the place in the company right now.
Fans buzzing with excitement after WWE Raw on Netflix gets a date
Shortly after Cody Rhodes spilled the beans on the date of Raw moving to Netflix, the fans on social media were all over it. One even said that John Cena needed to team up with CM Punk for that night.
Another one posted the viral Drew McIntyre GIF, which says that he prayed for it and it happened. There are a bunch of folks who firmly believe that Netflix being the permanent home for Raw could follow in the footsteps of the Attitude Era.
However, as Dominik Mysterio stated during a chat with Logan Paul on his IMPAULSIVE podcast, the edgy stuff that the fans are excited about needs to be done only when it makes sense. Only that way, it’d fetch the desired impact. Time will tell how things pan out.
