Jannik Sinner scripted history on Sunday (October 13) when he breezed past Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win his first Shanghai Masters trophy. He became the youngest player to win in Shanghai, and the first player since Andy Murray in 2016 to clinch more than six titles on the ATP Tour.
Sinner has now played eight matches against Djokovic and won four of them. The Shanghai Masters final was his second back-to-back win over the Serb and his third consecutive win overall.
Before Shanghai, Sinner was denied his seventh title in the China Open as he lost the final to rival Carlos Alcaraz. But Sinner denied Djokovic a 5-0 record in the Shanghai finals. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was playing in Shanghai for the first time since 2019.
However, when Sinner won the final point of the match, instead of an exuberant celebration, he simply raised his arms up and walked toward the net to shake hands with Djokovic and the chair umpire, before acknowledging the crowd’s applause with claps.

One of the calmest reactions you’re ever going to see after a win of this magnitude.

Fans criticize Jannik Sinner’s celebration after win over Novak Djokovic
Jannik Sinner once, while comparing him and Carlos Alcaraz, said he is rather a calm person on and off the court while Alcaraz involves the crowd while playing. While many lauded Sinner for his ‘calm’ celebration after his Shanghai Masters victory, it was perceived by some as a ‘cold’ one.
His harsh critics took a brutal dig at Sinner by reminding his supporters how Sinner couldn’t celebrate much because of the doping controversy, as they accused the 23-year-old of cheating. A few fans who supported Sinner, however, took a sly dig at Novak Djokovic, saying the World No.1 doesn’t have to celebrate against the 37-year-old as ‘everybody’ beats the Serb.

Yeah no reaction because how can he be proud after failing 2 drug tests.

Cheating and winning just doesn’t hit the same as winning fairly.
An educated and humble young man acknowledging his opponent this way. There's more to life than an outrageous winning celebration. Respect, Mr Sinner.

Everybody beats Novak these days. Nothing special

Coolest or lamest?
— Mathias Degardin (@TennisDegardin) October 13, 2024
Such a lame energy this guy emits. Nothing comes out from him. Even the crowd can't feel it.
I have never seen such a sad celebration and sad energy for a master victory. Sad sad sad
Weirdly so…

He just clinched a historic win and didn’t even flinch.
That’s the mark of true confidence and coolness under pressure.
It’s a sign of a true champion in the making.
Thats a cold handshake by Novak's standards

If this was Alcaraz beating Novak, the embrace at the net would be so much better

By winning and winning he is proving his case and re-stating his innocence. He wasn’t doping then and he is not doping now. Cos what’s the difference in his performance level then and now? He is simply too good ?

Also what a mental giant he is. He is amazing for his age.
He’s sad because of Wada’s appeal

Sinner has now become the first player since Rafael Nadal (in 2018) to win three ATP Masters 1000 titles in a season. Djokovic, on the other hand, remains trophyless this season on the ATP Tour, winning just the elusive gold medal at the Paris Olympic by beating Alcaraz in the final.
