Is Cody Rhodes one-dimensional? Has he lost the plot since finishing his story at WrestleMania XL? One would easily find these statements floating on the internet questioning the credibility of Rhodes being WWE’s poster boy. But how true is it? There might be flaws in Cody’s booking as the champion, which in itself is quite subjective. However, the amount of pull he has in the fans is unmatched.
It’s not rhetoric, but the numbers don’t lie. Having said that, Fightful is reporting that Cody Rhodes has hit the top 5 in merchandise sales on Fanatics across all athletes and personalities. That just doesn’t happen overnight. Instead, the milestone had to be years in the making. The groundswell in Rhodes’ popularity began when he returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
This time, he wasn’t dressed as Stardust but a full-blown American Nightmare who seemed as if he had some dues to clear. A couple of years removed, Cody’s the Undisputed WWE Champion, the only Rhodes to hold such a distinction. He’s keeping pace with his counterparts in the monthly WWE merch chart with interchangeable rankings. By the looks of it, he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
The Prodigal Son will return to his home state of Georgia next month. He’s set to join forces with longtime rival Roman Reigns to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at the Bad Blood PLE. This past week on SmackDown, Reigns and Rhodes descended on the Georgia Tech field.
The two stars butted heads in what was a cinematic masterpiece from WWE. Roman’s wiseman Paul Heyman was intricately involved in the production of that well-received segment featuring WWE’s biggest attractions in one frame. The fans were taken aback at how tense their exchange was.
Fans rally behind Cody Rhodes despite targeted trolling on the internet
As soon as Cody Rhodes was revealed to be the only wrestler landing a spot in the top 5 features on Fanatics, the fans were quick to laud the 39-year-old. Most of them underscored how the internet or the so-called Bloodline stans keep slandering the Undisputed Champion when it’s not that way.
A number of the folks regarded the former AEW EVP as the Quarterback of WWE. One fan brought up how earlier this year WWE was about to sabotage Cody’s reputation by not having him face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
That’s when The Rock chimed in and was all set to deny Rhodes his glory at Mania. However, an unprecedented uproar among the WWE Universe saw the company pivot, and the rest is history.
