On this week’s SmackDown, the US title picture encompassing the champ, Jacob Fatu, just escalated even further. When he and Solo Sikoa confronted general manager Nick Aldis backstage, the latter informed Fatu of his first title defense that would’ve seen him defend his title against LA Knight and Damian Priest. Baffled by the decision, Sikoa questioned its credence.
The former Tribal Chief came up with an entire rationale over why Drew McIntyre should be the one to challenge ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ for the gold at Backlash in a one-on-one match. Sikoa said so because the Scot won last week’s No. 1 contenders match against Knight, though via disqualification caused by Priest’s interference. GM Aldis was impressed by Sikoa’s presence of mind.
As a result, the former TNA World Champion added McIntyre to make Fatu’s inaugural US title defense a Fatal 4-Way at the Backlash PLE. Seeing the odds stacked against him, the 33-year-old champ was unfazed, but he did stare at Sikoa for a second as if he should’ve kept his mouth shut.

When the latter expressed his disappointment over Aldis’ decision and claimed that the Brit is trying to screw The Samoan Werewolf over, Aldis disputed it and told Sikoa that he was the one who did his boy dirty. It was at WrestleMania 41 where the former NWA Champion dethroned LA Knight for the United States Championship to win his first singles title in WWE. Fatu was greeted by Anoa’i clan icon, Haku, after his watershed moment.
Fans elated with the US title match booking at WWE Backlash
The WWE Universe is over the moon with the ongoing drama in the mid-card division on the blue brand. The following reactions on X to Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest vs. LA Knight at Backlash are overwhelming. A number of fans believe that the match could easily steal the night in St. Louis, let alone become a match of the year contender.

One user noted that once McIntyre is done with it, he’d be upgraded to the world title picture inevitably. Speaking of the Scot, he’s also lined up for a major Hollywood role soon. It remains to be seen how that would affect his WWE plans. A ton of fans also used a Sheamus GIF to emphasize that ‘The Chosen One’s’ Backlash match is going to be a banger.

More than likely Match of the Night

and a potential MOTY candidate.
Feel like one of them get Cena at SNME and it’ll probably be LAK or Priest
This should be awesome with these 4 involved. I feel this is just giving Drew something to do before he moves back up to main event scene and I am fine with it.

Some also underscored that these men could easily feud for the world title but can’t with John Cena‘s ongoing villainous arc. Nonetheless, it’d be interesting to see if Fatu comes out of Backlash with the US title or if he gets lost in the shuffle. He doesn’t even have to be pinned to lose it.
What is the card for WWE Backlash 2025?
WWE Backlash is barely a week away. Apart from the aforementioned US title match, the card has more intrigue to it. In the main event, John Cena will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton, which is dubbed as the last time ever.

Also, making his return to the ring will be Pat McAfee, who’ll take on Gunther. It came about last week after McAfee went off on The Ring General for choking him out on Raw after WrestleMania 41. Becky Lynch is also back in the hunt, and she will battle her Irish compatriot, Lyra Valkyria.
The Man turned her back on Valkyria on Raw after WrestleMania. They lost their women’s tag team titles to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Lynch also made the revelation that she was the one who took Bayley out of the equation.
