Time and time again coaches have surprised everyone with footballers being taken out of their natural position and deployed as something else. While on a few occasions, the pivot turned out to be incredible, there have been occasions where entire careers have gone for a toss. In the wake of such a similar argument, England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley has apparently proposed a crazy position for England’s gifted midfielder, Cole Palmer as per reports.
In fact, Cole Palmer isn’t the only option that Lee Carsley has suggested for the left-back position. As per the report, Carsley also suggested that Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Trent Alexander-Arnold can also be slotted in the much-talked-about position.
Bukayo Saka is an attacking midfielder while TAA comes in as a right-back or at times an overlapping winger. However, this crazy proposition from Carsley has sent the fans into splits.

Cole Palmer has been in incredible form for Chelsea where he has already scored six goals for the Blues in the ongoing edition of the Premier League. More importantly, his four-goal showdown against Brighton toppled the record books of the Premier League. He continues to impress at Stamford Bridge while establishing himself as a key component of the Enzo Maresca-managed Chelsea side.
Here is what X had to say about Lee Carsley and his weird proposition for Cole Palmer
X had made it clear that either Carsley is joking about this development or the entire interview sounds crazy. Football has formerly seen players being plucked out of their natural positions and deployed in others. However, they were on rare occasions. This radical change professed for Palmer or Saka has made the fans question the decision-making of Carsley.
England has won both their games under the chaperonage of Lee Carsley as they vanquished Ireland and Finland with identical 2-0 margins. However, fans have pointed out that Carsley still has work to do in terms of forging his team. Some questions have risen about his decision-making in key junctures. Here are some of the reactions:
The Three Lions have two important matches lined up in a span of just two days where they will be playing Greece and Finland in the Nation’s League. England is currently in the second position of League B Group 2 with similar points as that of the table-toppers Greece while trailing them in goal-difference as the latter has +5 vis-à-vis England’s +4.
