In another woeful display of defensive abilities, Manchester City gave away their lead to be held 2-2 by Brentford in a frustrating EPL encounter. It squandered the club’s opportunity to temporarily move back into the top five on the EPL table.

The draw leaves Manchester City in 6th position on the Premier League table with 35 points. It also extends their poor run this season, having won just four out of their last 17 encounters. Against Brentford, who are comfortably placed 10th on the table, City endured their worst defensive display. They conceded two late goals to keep themselves away from the Champions League spots.

Phil Foden put the visitors ahead with a second-half brace, as Man City looked on course for their fourth straight victory. However, Brentford had different plans, staging an amazing comeback. In the 82nd minute, Yoane Wissa scored a brilliant goal. City keeper Stefan Ortega was beaten again in the second minute of stoppage time, as Christian Norgaard scored the equalizer.

A visibly frustrated Pep Guardiola was seen kicking an advertisement board near the stands. He entered the pitch after the final whistle and angrily confronted his players, including Josko Gvardiol and Ortega, for their last-minute errors. The Man City boss later highlighted that injuries and the absence of some of the team’s best players were reasons for the recent setback.

Manchester City have dropped 14 points from winning positions in the EPL this season. It makes it their highest ever total in a season under manager Guardiola. Meanwhile, opponents Brentford finally ended their three-match home defeat streak.
