Arthur Fils defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1) today to secure his second tour-level title. He had to dig deep and face both his opponent and the German crowd to come through an eventful match.

Alexander Zverev found himself in another argument with a fellow competitor after his recent incident with Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon. The crowd in Hamburg supported him by heckling the young Frenchman after the latter attempted an underarm serve at 5-5 in the third set to save a breakpoint. The two players were seen having a heated argument at Zverev’s bench before the umpire had to step in. The German was called out on social media for how many fights he has been getting into of late.

Arthur Fils downed the top three seeds en route to his second-ever title

20-year-old Fils has been on a roll this year and his incredible run extended into the Hamburg Open which is an ATP 500 event. He was seeded 5th in the tournament and had to battle past five opponents to clinch his second tour-level title.

His first title came last year at the ATP 250 event in Lyon, in his home country of France. This is his biggest title yet and it did not come easy. In the last three rounds, he had to outlast the top three seeds, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, and Sebastian Baez.

He did not drop a set in the quarterfinal and semifinal, where he defeated Rune and Baez respectively. He upset Rune 6-4, 6-1 and dominated Baez 6-2, 6-2. His toughest challenge was against Zverev where he took all three sets to get the job done.
