Chelsea fans have been left fuming after skipper Reece James suffered a hamstring injury, ahead of the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season. This will delay the right-back’s return into the Chelsea first team by another month.
Reece James picked up the hamstring injury during training with the Blues. Despite the injury being described as minor, concerns are growing due to James’ history with hamstring issues. Moreover, the injury comes just a week before the new season, raising doubts about his availability for the opening match. He was also taken off during the Blues’ pre-season friendly against Real Madrid last week.
The club will be cautious with James’ recovery, especially after his surgery last year, prioritizing his long-term health. Additionally, he’s set to serve a four-match ban at the start of the season. While the exact location of the injury remains unclear, it adds to the uncertainty about his future availability. Over the past few seasons, James has missed a significant number of Chelsea’s matches, suffering six hamstring injuries in the last five years.

With James sidelined, Frenchman Malo Gusto will start at right-back. James’ injury could also keep him out of the Europa Conference League playoffs, requiring Gusto to play in both competitions. James is expected to return in September.
Fans react to news of Chelsea skipper Reece James’ recent hamstring injury
Although described as a minor injury, Chelsea will be cautious about rushing Reece James back due to his poor fitness record over the past two years. Fans took to social media to react, with some joking that Reece James has practically lived in the hospital since his debut in 2019.

Others humorously suggested that new signing Pedro Neto, known for his own injury history, would soon join him there. A few fans called for James to step down as captain, while one even offered to donate his legs to James.
