The Premier League chief executive officer, Richard Masters have emphasized the fact that the allegations of financial breaches which have been placed on Manchester City needs to come to a conclusion with the apt resolutions at the earliest possible. Manchester City have already denied all the 115 charges which were brought upon them by Premier League.
The Premier League aces were pinned in February with the aforementioned number of charges which exceeded triple digits. Ever since the takeover of the majority by the Abu Dhabi-owned City Football Group, on the financial front, despite plenty of money coming in, the entire outfit spiralled into chaos on the legal front. With the latest season of Premier League coming up, Richard Masters has made it clear that it needs to get sorted at the earliest.
It is time now for the case to resolve itself. It’s been going on for a number of years and I think it’s self-evident that the case needs to be heard and answered. When the case has been heard there will be a decision published and all the questions you would like me to answer will be answered as part of that process.Richard Masters told in an interview to BBC
Manchester City has won the Premier League for the last four times in a row and they will be starting their title defence with a clash against Chelsea on 18th of August. They will be coming to this tournament soaring high on confidence after edging past their city rivals, Manchester United in the FA Community Shield final.
Here is what X had to say about Manchester City charges while comparing them with the Everton controversy
Manchester City weren’t the only club who have been at the receiving end of this financial controversy chaos. Everton will also be walking into the tournament with the sword of points deduction dangling very closely on their neck. The Premier League have made a claim that the club has breached the PSR rules by an extra £6.5 million for the 2022-23 season.
This comes on the back of the £16 million breach for which they were docked points in the previous season. The Toffees lost a couple of points for the 2022-23 overspend while losing another six points which was revised from 10 for their splurge in the 2021-22 season. X pointed out that despite all the talks, eventually Manchester City may just walk scot-free because of the leverage that they wield.
Whether the Cityzens will suffer a blow or not for the upcoming season, that remains to be seen but at the end of the day, netizens feel that it seems highly unlikely. Only time shall reveal what happens to all the pending charges as the Premier League kickstarts in less than three days’ time.
