The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday decided to retain all the sponsors of the Indian Premier League (IPL) including the Chinese brands. Earlier, IPL’s Chinese sponsorship became a contentious issue in the wake of clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh.

However, BCCI has determined to continue with the sponsors keeping the sponsorship agreement in mind. A Governing Council member announced that the board decided to retain the sponsors as it is difficult to find new sponsors during these testing times.

“All I can say is that all our sponsors are with us. Hopefully, you can read between the lines,” a Governing Council member was quoted as saying by PTI.

Fans miffed with the decision

As soon as the IPL Governing Council confirmed the decision of retaining the sponsors, a huge number of fans took to Twitter to slam the board for the same.

#BoycottIPL started trending as the users compelled others to boycott the event for the Chinese connection.

The tournament will start on September 19 and end on November 10.

Last month, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel had confirmed that the tournament will be played across all 3 venues in the UAE — Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.
