Former swimmer Federica Pellegrini connects Jannik Sinner’s doping case to her colleague who faced two-year ban despite accidental doping
Former swimmer Federica Pellegrini recalled colleague Federico Turrini's doping case to talk about the controversy around Jannik Sinner.

Italian swimming great Federica Pellegrini talked about World No. 1 Jannik Sinner‘s doping case. She took former swimmer Federico Turrini‘s example to explain how it’s injustice to other innocent players who were also victims of accidental contamination.
Sinner failed the drug test in March as an anabolic steroid clostebol reached his body and in August, the International Tennis-Integrity Agency (ITIA) in its ruling declared that Sinner bore no fault or negligence. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), is now set to make some changes to the rules if reports are to be believed.
Pellegrini, who also questioned ITIA’s verdict on Sinner’s case, called for rule changes so that other players, for unintentional doping, don’t have to deal with suspensions.
I remember the case of Federico Turrini, a swimmer, a friend. He was on the other side of the world, he had a serious eye infection and had to be treated urgently. They used cortisone eye drops: positive, two years of disqualification when the contamination was obvious. Two years. If your vision changes, you need precise rules. The appeal for Sinner will give indications of the path they want to take.
Federica Pellegrini said during an interview with La Stampa
Sinner, even though declared innocent by the ITIA, could face a ban if the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruling comes out against him.
Nick Kyrgios once again takes a dig at Jannik Sinner
Nick Kyrgios is preparing to make his comeback in 2025 at the Brisbane International. Recently he shared a clip of one of his interviews on social media and wrote about his progress but also took a dig at Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek (who also failed a drug test).

An X user then sarcastically wrote that a ‘lazy’ player like Kyrgios would give an excuse that he ‘is a loser’ just because he ‘doesn’t dope’. Kyrgios noticed the tweet and explained why he doesn’t fall under the category of loser and while doing so, he again took a dig at those who failed dope tests.
I have an 8 figure career. Grand slam finalist and beaten all of the greatest of all time. Doesn’t seem bad to me. No drugs either.

Kyrgios hasn’t played a match since the 2023 Stuttgart Open due to multiple injuries and surgeries. He even thought of retirement and while on the sidelines he picked up the microphone to do commentary.
