C. A. Bhavani Devi registered a proud moment for all Indian fans after making her country’s debut in fencing at the Tokyo Olympics. Moreover, she also registered a win on her maiden bout as she beat Tunisian fencer Nadia Ben Azizi 15-3 in the Women’s Sabre Individual Table of 64.

Devi was all over her opponent in that match with her aggressive style of playing. After gaining a tremendous lead of 8-0 at the end of the first round, she conceded just three points in the following round before clinching a monumental victory. As a result, she booked a bout against a higher-ranked fencer from France, Manon Brunet in the Women’s Sabre Individual Table of 32.

However, the 27-year-old wasn’t able to continue her dream run for too long at Tokyo 2020 as Manon beat her with a scoreline of 15-7. After conceding a tough lead of 2-8 at the end of round one, the 2015 Asian Championships silver medalist gave her everything to gain some crucial points in the subsequent round. In the end, she witnessed an exit from the mega event after achieving several accolades to her name.
