The Prince has brought his witty social media acumen to the fore with his latest post on X intended to mock CM Punk.

CM Punk is set to make his second title defense in three weeks this Monday on Raw. ‘The Best in the World’ will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Finn Balor in the latter’s home country of Ireland. ‘The Prince’ has subtly aimed a dig at the ‘Second City Saint’ ahead of their showdown.

Taking to X, Balor posted a then vs. now picture of himself in the same frame as Punk. But there’s a catch. As seen below, in the upper half of the photo, the Irishman posed alongside a fan dressed up as CM Punk and not the actual wrestler himself. While in the bottom half, their confrontation from this week’s Raw was depicted with Balor hilariously claiming that Punk has grown up so fast.

These men have never gotten to wrestle each other in the past. However, they do go back a long time. There’s a viral picture on the internet of CM Punk and Finn Balor from Samoa Joe‘s wedding in a selfie also comprising the incumbent Raw GM Adam Pearce. It was clicked in 2007. Almost two decades removed, the stars have finally aligned for Punk and Balor to stand across from each other in the same ring.

‘The Irish Captor’ hasn’t competed for a world title since December 2024. Balor spent the entirety of last year playing second fiddle to his Judgment Day stablemates and, on some days, shining Liv Morgan‘s shoes, as Punk quipped in their promo exchange this Monday. The fans, to this day, keep bringing up a report that outright claimed that ‘Prince Devitt’ was lined up for a sustained singles push in 2025, but it never happened.

Is his latest match with ‘The Best in the World’ a step in the right direction, or is it merely a case of WWE appeasing the local audience by having their hero compete for the world title just because they’re visiting their country for a taping? Time will tell. The fans are also clamoring for the return of The Prince’s old theme song calling next week’s Raw in Belfast the perfect opportunity for the course correction.

How likely is CM Punk to lose the world title next week?

As attractive as it looks on paper, CM Punk vs. Finn Balor next week doesn’t blatantly scream of a title change. ‘The Straight Edge Superstar’ has just come off a tough encounter against Bron Breakker. The latter pushed the veteran wrestler to his limits before eventually biting the dust.

Breakker even got himself suspended after physically threatening the Raw GM Adam Pearce this week on the heels of the disappointment stemming from that stinging loss to Punk. While the Steiner descendant doesn’t seem likely for a rematch against the former AEW star in the immediate future, they’re expected to run it back sometime again this year, with WrestleMania 42 being a potential destination.

Turning the clock back to Survivor Series last year, the ‘Best in the World’ did have a confrontation with Roman Reigns as well, apart from the latter doing the same to Cody Rhodes. As of a while ago, Reigns and Rhodes were reportedly set to take on each other at this year’s WrestleMania. However, those plans have reportedly been scrapped following Drew McIntyre‘s Undisputed WWE title win.

Will that force the company to book a dream showdown between ‘The OTC’ and ‘The Second City Saint’ as the other lucrative main event of the two-night spectacle in Vegas? For those ambitious plans to stay on course, CM Punk needs to keep the World Heavyweight title by himself, making it increasingly unlikely for him to lose to Finn Balor next Monday.
