Flavio Cobolli has revealed that he hopes to reach the level of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on tour. The Italian star has enjoyed a breakthrough season this year, winning two titles already and breaking into the top 20. He also reached his maiden Grand Slam quarter-finals at the All England Club in July.
However, Sinner and Alcaraz have dominated the men’s circuit for the past two years, both winning all eight Grand Slams between themselves. The duo has met in three consecutive Grand Slam finals this season and has won eight titles combined, including all four of the major tournaments.
The likes of Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, and Alexander Zverev have struggled to compete with them on tour this season. Nonetheless, Cobolli has been one of the youngsters who have made their way into the Top 30 of the ATP rankings. He claimed his first ATP title at the Bucharest Open in May.
A month later he then went on to claim his first ATP 500 title at the Hamburg Open after beating Andrey Rublev in the final. At the Wimbledon Championships, he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Djokovic in four sets. He’s currently ranked World No.25 and holds a 27-20 win-loss record on tour this season.
The 23-year-old is now looking to become a new force on tour as the end of the season approaches. During an interview with Ubitennis, the Italian star revealed that it may seem impossible to reach the level of Sinner and Alcaraz, but he’s motivated to work hard towards getting there:
I have seen the rivalry they are having, and it is spectacular. In the last final, they showed incredible tactical changes. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz strive to improve every day, and that is what motivates me to grow. Right now, it may seem impossible to reach them, but I work towards that every day.
Alcaraz and Sinner have been dubbed to follow the footsteps of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s rivalry. They met at the 2025 US Open final with Alcaraz winning the title in four sets at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was their 15th meeting on tour and Alcaraz leads their head-to-head record 10-5 and 4-1 this season.
Flavio Cobolli hopes to follow in the footsteps of his idol Novak Djokovic
Flavio Cobolli has never hidden his ambition on tour. He has revealed that part of his goal is to make the top 10 of the ATP rankings. The 23-year-old has also expressed confidence in himself and his skills on the court. He’s training ahead of the Asian swing, which begins on September 16, just after the Davis Cup qualifying round.

During the aforementioned interview, he admitted that he hopes to follow the footsteps of either Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, or Rafael Nadal on tour. However, he noted that Djokovic is his idol since he was a kid and it will be an honor to get close to the level of the Serbian legend:
No, I’m kidding. I dream of being one, but obviously, there are many other very strong players who will try to be. However, he’s been my idol since I was a child, so it would be an honor to be able to get close to him even if he’s the best player in history and his heir will be almost impossible to find.
Cobolli’s last match on tour came at the US Open in the third round against his fellow compatriot Lorenzo Musetti. He was forced to retire from the match in the third set after sustaining an injury. Before the match, he had to come from a set down to beat American star Jenson Brooksby in a five-set thriller.
