The boxing world has taken a completely unpredictable turn in recent years, especially since the rise of influencer boxing events. Exhibition bouts have become increasingly common, creating huge opportunities for retired legends to earn money simply by using their names. This also includes Floyd Mayweather, who is officially scheduled to fight Mike Tyson in a highly anticipated matchup.

Mayweather is a former multi-division champion and remains undefeated with a 50-0 record, which places him among boxing’s all-time greats. Since retiring from professional boxing in 2017 at the age of 40, Mayweather has continued competing in several lucrative exhibition bouts. Now, eight years later, ‘TBE’ is ready to risk his perfect streak once again, but only after facing Tyson next year.

There have been talks. There have been talks. It’s possible. I feel good. Working hard each and every day and I can’t wait for 2026.

Mayweather’s last official professional fight was against Conor McGregor, which he won impressively while earning a staggering $280 million. It was the biggest combat sports event in terms of revenue following Mayweather’s previous fight with Manny Pacquiao. Since the McGregor fight, Mayweather has participated in a few high-profile exhibition bouts against Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul, etc.

However, nobody anticipated Floyd Mayweather would actually fight Mike Tyson, who shockingly turns 60 years old in the coming July. While many combat sports fans have openly spoken against this matchup, it does not seem to bother ‘Money’ whatsoever.

Instead, the retired boxer continues flaunting his massive wealth, showing little concern for criticism as he enjoys his luxurious lifestyle. Still, Mayweather is looking forward to the Tyson fight, aiming to deliver an entertaining spectacle for passionate boxing fans.

I’m not really training right now. The fight is in 2026. We’re still ironing out everything. But I’m pretty sure it’s going to be exciting for the people and the fans. I just want to give the fans what they want to see. Excitement. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be an exciting event and people from all around the world are gonna enjoy it.

Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson share a long-standing beef that began years ago when Mayweather publicly discredited the legendary Muhammad Ali’s achievements. Tyson, being a lifelong fan of Ali, did not hold back and immediately mocked Mayweather very harshly. Since then, both fighters have consistently refused to miss any opportunity to throw verbal jabs or poke fun at each other.

Why is Mike Tyson fighting Floyd Mayweather?

Mike Tyson, in his prime years, was an unstoppable force who earned a reputation as history’s most dangerous fighter. He still holds the record for being the youngest heavyweight boxing champion ever and was famous for his brutal knockout power. During his prime, Tyson earned millions of dollars through fights and endorsements, but Don King’s shady collaboration cost him his fortune.

After enjoying years of luxury throughout the late 1980s, Tyson shockingly went bankrupt in 2003 due to reckless financial mismanagement. Following bankruptcy, Tyson reinvented himself by using charisma and influence to generate money while becoming increasingly active on social media.

One thing led naturally to another, and Tyson eventually returned to boxing through exhibition bouts, which opened opportunities for him to participate in big bouts. In a recent interview, Tyson directly responded to such pressing questions, addressing details about his boxing future.

I have a 14-year-old son, and my son said, ‘Why? Why are you doing it?’ For a moment, I didn’t know what to say. And I felt sad for a moment. I said, ‘Because I’m the best that ever did it….but I said, ‘I have to. It is all I know how to do.’ I made more money in my 50s than I did in my 20s. That’s really interesting. From that perspective, I’m [about to be] 60 years old. The money doesn’t mean anything. The people I love, I can take care of.

In his last outing, Tyson fought YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and lost the bout via unanimous decision. While Tyson made around $20 million, fans were extremely concerned about his health. Nevertheless, Tyson is ready to go again, and his history with Floyd Mayweather makes this bout even more exciting.
