Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero at the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves fight card cause a gigantic upset in the boxing world. No one expected Romero to dominantly shut out the controversial American boxer. However, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather predicted this exact same outcome around six years back.
The main event of Fatal City fight card in Times Square was supposed to hype up the eventual rematch between Garcia and eternal rival Devin Haney. Boxing’s anti-hero Romero shut down all the hype in a career-reviving performance against Garcia. The powerful left-hook didn’t bother Romero at all. In fact, Mayweather doubted Garcia’s skill set to defeat the Puerto Rican boxer.
Ryan Garcia! Do you know what I’m gonna do? I’m putting the money on Ryan now. If Ryan Garcia can beat Rolly, I give him $200,000 cash… Once he lose to Rolly, I don’t ever wanna hear him say Tank’s name again.

Mayweather’s prediction came at a time when Garcia was outspoken about wanting to fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. ‘Money Mayweather’ never believed that ‘King Ryan‘ could defeat Davis in a boxing bout. However, he wanted Garcia to earn the shot by defeating Rolly Romero at that time.
As fate would have it, Garcia faced Davis in 2023, and lost via body-shot TKO in the seventh round. Now, in 2025, Garcia is at a crossroads in his career with the devastating loss to Romero. His rematch against ‘Tank’ only makes sense if they are the two top dogs remaining at the top. Ryan Garcia is no longer in that position anymore. The loss to Romero takes him further away from avenging his loss to Tank.
The combat sports community was amazed at how accurately Mayweather predicted the bout. It shows how much certain boxers understand the game compared to the rest. Romero has a two-fight winning streak now, and could face a top name in his next bout. However, the future of Garcia remains only known to a few people after his second career loss.
Turki Alalshikh provides update on the future of Ryan Garcia after Rolly Romero upset
Saudi supremo Turki Alalshikh made a revolutionary yet subtle takeover of the boxing world back in 2023. At the time, it was a sport where top fighters ducked each other. Yet, Alalshikh and the Saudi money was too much for the top fighters to refuse. In the beginning, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk joined hands with Riyadh Season.

Soon after, the likes of Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, Terence Crawford, and Ryan Garcia joined hands as well. In fact, Garcia was the most noteworthy due to his million dollar PPV fight with Gervonta Davis. The controversial no-contest against Haney only added to his fame, and he was set to headline multiple fight cards sponsored by Alalshikh.
With the upsetting loss to Romero, many would wonder if Garcia’s stock has fallen. While it is certainly alright to think that way, Alalshikh is far from convinced that this was the end of Ryan Garcia. He wrote a positive message regarding King Ryan’s future.
I just hung up the phone with @RyanGarcia and i fully support him. He will come back better than ever.

As of now, Garcia is contracted to compete against Haney in two rematches. The bout will likely take place in Saudi Arabia under the Riyadh Season banner. It will provide Garcia with an important task of reviving his career, and putting Haney rivalry to rest. After what happened at Fatal Fury, the odds may have slightly shifted in favor of Haney.
With right focus and hard work, the rematch is definitely a winnable fight for King Ryan. However, the California native always finds trouble just like various superheroes or villains. Meanwhile, Devin Haney will aim to pile on more misery for his eternal rival.
