Max Verstappen Vows to Make the Most of What Mercedes ‘Always Deny’ for Red Bull at 2021 Italian Grand Prix
Max Verstappen
After winning the Belgium Grand Prix and then the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen will be looking to clinch his third successive win in Monza, at the Italian Grand Prix.
Winning the last Grand Prix at his home circuit in spectacular fashion, Verstappen has now taken back the lead in the F1 drivers standings by 3 points over 7 time World Championship winner Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes and Red Bull are absolutely neck and neck in both the drivers and constructors championships, every race going forward will be crucial in deciding the fate of these teams.
Verstappen started in pole position at Zandvoort, and was quick to take the lead after just one lap. He maintained his spectacular and consistent performance throughout the race, crossing the finish line miles ahead of the rest of the field. In an attempt to reduce the points deficit, Mercedes changed Hamilton’s tires in the very last lap, to ensure another point for the fastest lap of the race.
Max Verstappen Vows to Make the Most at Monza as Italian Grand Prix Circuit Favours Mercedes Cars
Next week, the drivers will race at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix, the home circuit of Ferrari. While Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be the favourites to finish on the podium, the circuit lends itself to the Mercedes cars quite well. Tracks like Monza and Sochi have been the team’s stronghold for several years.
Monza’s long straights means that Mercedes will be faster than Red Bull, but Verstappen has promised to give it his all to win the race and maintain his lead. The Dutch driver will be doing all he can to level the playing field, as he admits Red Bull will be starting with a disadvantage.
Max has vowed to build on his 2 successive wins at the beginning of the second half of the season. The 23-year-old is hoping to make it three wins from this triple header this season.
