Ajax, Bob Marley and “Three Little Birds”, a beautiful love story
The iconic song of Bob Marley “Three Little Birds” and Ajax have a long history, for the fans, the song is a symbol of hope. In 2008 Ajax was playing Cardiff City in a friendly match in Cardiff. The game finished in a 0-0 draw. The Ajax fans in the stand were asked to stay back at the stadium after the game. The stadium announcer at that time Ali Yassine decided to entertain the fans by playing songs. “Three Little Birds” was the first song played and since then the Ajax fans feel in love with the song and “Three Little Birds” has become an unofficial anthem of the Dutch club.
“They were all dancing, clapping, and singing along to the song. I kind of left that stadium that night thinking ‘Wow’” said Ali Yassine to B/R Football.
Bob Marley was a very big football lover. Marley’s daughter, Cedella said “I am beyond touched that Ajax has taken Three Little Birds and made it their anthem. Stories like this warm my heart and show how impactful songs like Three Little Birds can be. Soccer was everything to my father… and to use his words: ‘football is freedom’,” quoted from ESPN.
The third kit of Ajax is a part of the much bigger collection which includes a tracksuit, sweater, t-shirt, and a pair of Limited edition Samba sneakers.
