Albert Sambi Lokonga on the verge of signing Arsenal contract
Arsenal are very close to strike a deal with Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokongo according to various reports in the English media. The North London club have offered a 5-year contract for the 21-year old Anderlecht midfielder.
The youngster has already landed in London and is all set to complete his medicals for the club, before the official announcement comes from both parties. Arsenal have agreed to pay a fee of around €17.5m to Anderlecht for the signing of the promising youngster.
Albert Sambi Lokonga will increase Mikel Arteta’s options in midfield for Arsenal next season
Mikel Arteta and Arsenal were looking to bring in a midfielder this season after they let go of Dani Ceballos, Odegaard and Guendouzi this summer and had set their sights on the Belgian prodigy for a long time. Sambi Lokonga has made himself a first choice player for Belgian First Division side Anderlecht over the past couple of seasons.
He has made a total of 69 appearances for the club since signing his first professional contract with the club in 2017. Playing primarily as a defensive midfielder, he has scored just 3 goals during his professional career however his impressive work-rate and passing play is what has caught the eyes of the Gunners manager.
Sambi Lokongo was listed as one of the stand by players for this summer’s EURO 2020 by Belgium coach Roberto Martinez. Lokonga will boost the Gunners’ midfield that lacks options and quality and he will replace Matteo Guendouzi but he is unlikely to walk straight into Arsenal’s starting eleven.
He is all set to become Arsenal’s second summer signing after Benfica’s Nuno Tavares and an official announcement can be expected very soon.
