ISL: Amrinder Singh signs for ATK Mohun Bagan from Mumbai City FC in a 5-year contract

Mumbai City FC goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh has signed a bumper deal which will see him play for ATK Mohun Bagan in the next season of the Indian Super League. The Indian No. 2 goalkeeper leaves Mumbai after winning the ISL trophy last season.

Amrinder has signed a five year contract with the Kolkata club, it was announced on Monday. Singh played for previously named ATK in 2015, on loan from I-League club Pune FC and will make his second appearance under the Spanish coach Antonio Lopes Habas.

Amrinder Singh had played for Mumbai City for the past 5 years and has made a record 84 appearances in goal for the coastal side. The 27-year old Singh won his first Golden Glove award in his maiden season when he was on loan from Bengaluru FC in 2016-17 and led Mumbai to their first ever semi-finals appearance that year.

Mumbai City FC took to social media to put a short video showing different postures of Amrinder Singh in different MCFC jerseys over the years.

At the end of the video, there is a photo of Amrinder with the Indian Super League trophy and a thank you note comes. “Five incredible seasons of guarding the City, five unforgettable years of Paaji. Dhanyavad. Shukriya. Aabhaar. For everything. #ThankYouAmrinder #AamchiCity,” MCFC wrote with their Twitter video.

Amrinder Singh was delighted to return to his former club for the 2nd time and hopes to turn a new chapter in his footballing career.

He said, “Even though I played in Kolkata before, it was for a very short time. This joining, of course, is going to be a new chapter in my football career. Winning all the trophies for Mumbai last year was a memorable event in my life.  I want the same success in the Green-Maroon jersey next season.”

The goalkeeper is currently with the Indian Football team in Doha preparing for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches which start on 3rd June against Qatar.
