“Moment of Emotion”: Ansu Fati’s father buys 8 shirts with ‘No.10’ on the back

On Wednesday, FC Barcelona’s official website confirmed that Ansu Fati will carry forward the legacy of the Barcelona No.10. The club stated, “The next player to don the big one-zero will be Ansu Fati, who has already set plenty of records himself for being the youngest in club history to achieve a wide range of different things.”

The jersey was previously worn by legends of the game, including Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and most recently the six-time Ballon D’or winner, Lionel Messi. Messi took over the number in 2008, and since then, it has been historic. And now, it falls onto the shoulders of an 18-year-old La Masia graduate, Ansu Fati.

Reaction from the father of Ansu Fati

Ansu Fati’s father, Bori Fati, revealed that he burst into tears when he got the news and “could not sleep”. His father was spotted in the club’s official store buying eight Barca shirts out of his own pockets with ‘Ansu Fati No.10’ on the back.

An emotional Bori Fati said that, “We are very happy. I have no words to describe what it means that Ansu inherits the 10 from Leo Messi. I have no words. It is a moment of emotion that must be kept forever.”

“I do not wish anyone what we have lived. Not my worst enemy. But life goes on. I have spent many sleepless nights. Many. We have felt the love of Barcelona. We have checked it every day when we arrive at the sports city. The culés never fail. We are with them the whole family”, his father further added.

The road to No.10 for Fati

Ansu Fati immediately became a star when he broke into the first team setup. Fati joined the La Masia in 2012, when he was 10, and bagged his first professional in 2019. He currently has 13 goals in his 41 appearances for the club, and one goal in four caps for the Spanish national team.

Ansu Fati previously had worn the No.31, and then in 2020, he switched to 22. Fati also held the No.17, and now finally has the most legendary kit no. of all time.
