Artists who have refused to perform in the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony at Qatar
FIFA World Cup 2022
The eagerly anticipated and famous FIFA World Cup 2022 is about to start on November 20. There is no doubt that the ceremony and the competition will turn into a worldwide carnival for football enthusiasts. Like every year, the governing body of Qatar was looking for musicians to play at the World Cup opening ceremony.
The most recent information on this is that numerous well-known celebrities and pop stars have turned down invitations to play at the fantastic event. The most common explanation is that the laws and rules that Qatar follows conflict with their ideals and generally with the rights of humans.
One of these artists is the well-known Dua Lipa, who has stated on her social media accounts that she would not accept the invitation and play in Qatar due to the country’s position on homosexuality and its approach to dealing with immoral behaviour. The announcement came via Dua Lipa’s Instagram story.
“There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremoney of the World Cup in Qatar. I will not be performing & nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform. I will be cheering England on from afar & I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host”
Shakira not to be at FIFA World Cup 2022
Another celebrity who has announced his disagreement in performing at the FIFA World Cup is the Scottish crooner Rob Stewart. Regarding the same je said in an interview, ”I was actually offered a lot of money, over $1 million, to perform there 15 months ago. I turned it down. It’s not okay to go. And the Iranians should also be out for supplying weapons.”
Shakira, a well-known international music star, reportedly declined an invitation to perform at the World Cup as well, though no one directly involved has yet given any explanations for why. When the backing out becomes routine, it’s a complete shame.
Robert Smith declines the proposal
The infamous English musician Robert Smith also took out to tweet that he will not be available for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. “HATE TO DISAPPOINT EVERYONE, BUT DESPITE THE RUMOURS WE WILL NOT BE HEADLINING THE WORLD CUP OPENING CEREMONY”, was the tweet he had for his fans.
There were numerous disputes and criticisms of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Football supporters all across the world have reacted angrily to their laws surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community, same-sex marriage, drinking regulations, and other issues. Celebrities have also expressed their opposition to the same.
