AS Roma keen to sign Ruben Loftus Cheek

The transfer season has already thrown some interesting twists and before the transfer window closes there could be some more surprising twists. One of the transfer moves that could be in the offing is that of Chelsea FC midfielder Ruben Loftus Cheek. AS Roma has made some interesting signings recently.

Manager Jose Mourinho and the club bosses recently secured the services of Roger Ibanez from Atalanta, Rui Patricio from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tammy Abraham from Chelsea and Eldor Shomurodov. Jose Mourinho and the club bosses are taking steps to prepare a team for the long run and at the moment the team is looking good on paper.

As per reports Mourinho is looking to sell Steven Nzonzi and Javier Pastore and would like to add Loftus Cheek as an alternative. The 59-year-old manager was also interested to buy Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach but the club’s 20 million euros offer was a bit too high as AS Roma couldn’t afford a hefty price at a time when the financial situation is in crisis.

Loftus Cheek has played under Mourinho when the Portuguese was the manager of the Blues during the 2014-15 season. The 26-year-old hasn’t been able to make an impression and was loaned to Fulham FC during the 2020-21 season. With the Chelsea outfit already witnessing some tough competition with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic looking in prime form, it would be difficult for Loftus Cheek to get enough chances and so a move would be the best option in order to reestablish his career.

Loftus Cheek’s physical play would provide enough width in the midfield. The 26-year-old can provide assuredness at the wings with his technical trickery. The Chelsea FC player is a box to box midfielder with an eye for a goal and has the ability to build attacks with his clever movements and creativity. Loftus Cheek can penetrate the opposition’s defence with his speed.

The England international is known for his aerial prowess who can score goals with his destructive headers during set-pieces. The midfielder can double up as an attacking midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. Loftus Cheek has been compared with the likes of Michael Ballack due to his physical play.

Loftus Cheek can control the possession with his physical play combined with his ability to regain the possession with his speed and athleticism. Loftus Cheek can do a lot of damage with his goal-scoring prowess. Playing under Mourinho would do a world of good to his confidence and make him tactically competent.

Lorenzo Pelligrini could be his ideal partner alongside Jordan Veretout in the midfield while his collusion with striker Tammy Abraham would be crucial especially at the centre if the deal is successful. A move to AS Roma could be a big game-changer for Loftus Cheek to reform his career. Jose Mourinho as well as the club bosses would also try to close in on this deal at the earliest to add enough heft in the midfield.
