As things were not going well at Manchester United and now star midfielder Bruno Fernandes and his representatives turned down contract negotiations from Manchester United and it is set be to stalled till May, 2022. The midfielder will now wait and see till the end of the season whether or not Manchester United qualify for Europe next season. 

Bruno Fernandes who signed from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for reported fee of £67 million and offered double the wage he was earning at the time which saw him earn £100,000k per week at Old Trafford. Since his arrival Fernandes has been an important figure in the Manchester United line up and only Mohamed Salah(45) and Harry Kane(34) have scored more goals than Bruno Fernandes who has scored 33 times and provided 22 assists.

However the Portuguese midfielder has struggled for form this season and has been heavily criticised for it, but he once again showed his importance scoring twice in a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last weekend. Ralf Rangnick’s side are facing huge competition from the likes of West Ham, Arsenal and Spurs for the fourth spot and hence secure Champions League football for next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in the summer at Old Trafford saw him become the highest paid player in the squad earning reportedly £400,000k per week. Manchester United’s shot stopper David De Gea is only a tad behind Ronaldo earning £375,000k per week and Bruno Fernandes wants Manchester United to reward him with a wage rise as he believes he is an important player to the club. 

As many as eight players earn more than Fernandes. Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane all earn more than the Portuguese midfielder. Fernandes current contract ends in 2025 with an option to extend for an additional year, hence the club can wait till the end of the season to re-open contract negotiations with the player.
