Manchester City continued their brilliant record in the Premier League courtesy of a 1-0 victory over rivals Chelsea on Saturday evening. This win takes Manchester City eleven points clear at the top of the table.
A Kevin De Bruyne goal was the solitary goal scored in the match but it was enough to secure all three points for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Pep Guardiola is amazed by Sir Alex Ferguson’s record
It will be safe to say since arriving in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola has absolutely dominated the rest of the teams. He is currently en route to win his fourth league title since coming to the Etihad Stadium in July 2016.
Additionally Pep Guardiola has now won 11 Premier League Manager of the Month awards. His most recent ones came consecutive as he claimed the title for November as well as December.
In an interview he was told that he was now behind to only two managers – Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson. When asked how he felt Guardiola replied by saying he was aiming to overcome Sir Alex Ferguson’s record.
“You’ve won 11 now, Pep – only Wenger and Ferguson have won more than you. So, is that something for you to be proud of?”
“Be careful, Sir Alex, Arsene… I’m coming,” Guardiola replied.
However the reporter quickly reminded him that Ferguson had won a staggering 27 awards during his tenure at Manchester United.“[Ferguson] won 27, Pep, so not too many…”
Pep Guardiola’s reaction was superb as he understood that he was not going to top that many !
“How many?!” he said. “Oh my god!Okay… it belongs to him!I will not chase him for sure.”
