Both Chelsea and Leicester have been fined 22,500 pounds by the Football Association after an ugly fist fight broke out between the players of the two teams at the very end of the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side won the high voltage match 2-1, which later played a crucial role in the Blues race for the Champions League spot in the Premier League, as they finished fourth eventually, one point above the Foxes.

Tensions were running high throughout the match because Chelsea players were flustered by Leicester City’s irrepressible celebrations following their 1-0 victory in the FA Cup final just three days earlier.

As Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over the Foxes was nearing the end, Ricardo Pereira’s harsh tackle on former Leicester team-mate Ben Chilwell late in the game sparked a fight as many players and substitutes from either side got involved in the melee that also involved some members of the backroom staff.

The most noteworthy moment was that the anger directed towards Daniel Amartey, a Leicester substitute, who had a few days earlier disrespected Chelsea by throwing the club’s pennant to the floor and was seen stamping in the dressing room party at Wembley after Leicester had won the FA Cup, and the same anguishes boiled over to the next fixture to come between the two clubs just after.

Three Leicester City players involved in the scuffle, Ricardo Pereira, Nampalys Mendy and substitute Daniel Amartey were booked by referee Mike Dean for their part in that incident, as the two sides had to be separated using force.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was quick to waive off the incident as nothing serious after the game but reports came out a few days later that Chelsea could be hit with a points mitigation due to multiple offenses of failing to control their players during the course of the match. The Football Association today announced that both teams were fined £22,500 for breaching FA Rule E20.1.

“Chelsea and Leicester City have been fined £22,500 each after admitting a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture on Tuesday 18 May 2021.

“The clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players and club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour during the 93rd minute of the fixture.” read the FA official statement.

The win for the Blues helped them finish one point above Leicester and eventually earn a top-four spot later on, while Leicester missed out on a Champions League berth for next season after losing to Tottenham on the last day of the season.
