N’Golo Kante tests positive for Covid-19: Set to miss Chelsea’s Champions League Clash against Juventus
N’Golo Kante has been put out of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday testing positive for Coronavirus, as confirmed by their manager Thomas Tuchel.
“He was not in training today and he is not present in the team,” said the German gaffer in today’s pre-match conference.
Tuchel did not mention Kante’s Vaccination status at his pre-match press conference of the Juventus match, in which Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Reece James have also been sidelined with injuries. N’golo Kante played a one-hour defeat to Chelsea and Manchester City on Saturday after his manager said the midfielder was ill. He also missed games this season due to a hamstring injury.
The Chelsea head coach admitted he did not know how many players of his teams have taken the Covid-19 Vaccine but said he had received it himself. The German opined that the players should keep their choice over the Covid-19 vaccine, while at the same time hoping that Kante would recover soon.
“I don’t know the how many of players are actually vaccinated,” he said. “It’s not that I don’t want to tell you but I can’t.
“And again it’s just a public symbol, the players are adults and it’s a free choice whether they want to be vaccinated or not. And I think we should always respect their feelings too.
“Every time someone gets here from us or our team, it makes us realize that Covid’s situation is not over.”
Tuchel conceded that the combination of a successful transfer window and winning the Champions League last season would make their job difficult in this tournament this year.
“It’s hard to be seen as a poor person when you have just won a title but I think it came from a role we didn’t take as a favourite last season and we got better with every game and grew more confident,” he added.
“We know it gets a high price to play for us, it’s a great incentive to play against us and we have to accept this,” concluded the 48 year old
