Christian Eriksen makes his return to Premier League Football
Danish International Christian Eriksen has signed a deal with Premier League side Brentford as a free agent till the end of the season. The player has not played since he suffered a cardiac arrest in EURO 2020 and looks to reignite his career with the west London side.
Christian Eriksen suffered Cardiac arrest during Denmark’s game against Finland and was saved by life-saving treatment on the pitch in Copenhagen was. He was subsequently fitted with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) – a type of pacemaker. The 29-year-old won the league title with Inter Milan last season, but the Italians and Christian Eriksen mutually agreed to cancel his contract in December as players fitted with an ICD cannot compete in Serie A.
Manager Thomas Frank said: “I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then. Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.
“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a World Class player to Brentford. He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own. He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.”
Christian Eriksen’s Brentford debut will take some time as he has had to delay his arrival in London to comply with COVID entry rules. He was vaccinated recently and must allow 14 days to elapse to avoid having to quarantine for 10 days in the UK. Brentford said: “Christian will travel to west London in the coming days and will not train with Brentford this week.”

During an interview with the Danish broadcaster DR, Christian Eriksen stated that he wants to play the World Cup in Qatar, which starts later this year.
“I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along. It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back. I’m sure I can because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape.
“My dream is to rejoin the national team and play at [Denmark’s national stadium] Parken again and prove that it was a one-timer and that it won’t happen again.
“I want to prove I’ve moved on and that I can play [for] the national team again. Again, it’s up to the manager to assess my level. But my heart is not an obstacle.”
