The Ballon d’Or nominees for the coveted trophy were finally released as the prestigious award made a return after it was not given out last year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. However, French Football has brought it back this year and will hand it out to the winner on 29th November at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris.
A list of 30 players was released by French football, which comprises of the best of the lot from last year rated according to their performances for both club and country during the past season.

- Juventus: 2
- Inter Milan: 2
- Manchester United: 2

Chelsea, Manchester City- 5 each
UEFA Champions League winners, Chelsea and Runner-up Manchester City are the two most represented players in the Ballon d’Or nominees list as they both have 5 players each.
Chelsea have their impressive midfield trio- Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount who were crucial in their success on the European stage last season. Seasoned defender Cesar Azpilicueta also made the cut, after having a great season in defense last year as well as their new summer recruit Romelu Lukaku who had inspired his former side Inter Milan to the Serie A title.
Manchester City, who nearly missed out on their maiden European trophy last year has Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterlin, Riyadh Mahrez, and youngster Phil Foden. They lifted the Premier League last year along with the Carabao Cup and deservingly have their 5 best players in contention of winning a maiden Ballon d’Or.
Paris- Saint Germain- 4
The club with the third most nominations, behind Manchester City and Chelsea, are French club Paris Saint-Germain who did not lift any trophy last year, but still have 4 nominations due to their semi-final finish in the Champions League and their impressive transfer window where they brought in a horde of other stars.
The players nominated from Paris are- Ballon D’Or favorite Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Messi and Donnarruma were roped in this summer while Kylian Mbappe and Neymar had great campaigns with PSG.
Juventus, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United- 2 each
Juventus, Inter, Real Madrid, and Manchester United both have 2 players each among the 30-man nominee list for the Ballon d’Or.
- Juventus – Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci
- Inter Milan- Nicolo Barella, Lautaro Martinez
- Real Madrid- Karim Benzema, Luka Modric
- Manchester United- Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes
