Tottenham Hotspur’s Argentine summer recruit, Cristian Romero is one of the luckiest footballers of the modern era to have had the distinction of playing with two of the best footballers of the generation, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 23-year old Argentine defender had a breakthrough season at Atalanta, and was an important figure for Argentine in defence and helped Lionel Messi win his first international trophy this summer at the Copa America. He was Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate at Juventus in 2019, before leaving the club on loan for Genoa.

Cristian Romero is all set to face his former teammate Ronaldo as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to take on Manchester United in this week’s high profile Premier League encounter. Ahead of the clash, Romero was asked to comment on the star duo with he has had the privilege of sharing the same dressing room at two different points in his career.
Romero started off with his international teammate Lionel Messi saying, “Messi is not just a great player, he is an absolute god in football. And I think it’s not just me saying that. Anyone who knows football, who knows Messi, will say the same thing.”
“To have the opportunity to play with him is amazing, but also to share a dressing room with him is just incredible. We all know what a great guy he is as a footballer, of course. But as a person, he is someone I admire so much.”
Continuing his discussion, on the two GOATs of football, he said, “He (Cristiano Ronaldo) is one of the best players in the world and it’s great to have that opportunity to play against players like that. I also had the chance to play alongside him in training at Juve and speak with him.“
“He’s a great guy as well and just someone I admire so much as a footballer. I’m someone who always wants to play against the best teams with the best players. To come up against the best is what we’re here for. I just hope on the weekend everything goes well for us.”
